An IBCLC is a professional who has the essential skills and knowledge to provide quality breastfeeding support to babies and parents. Her specialized knowledge and clinical expertise in human lactation allows her to support breastfeeding families through common and complex challenges, all while respecting their unique needs.
An IBCLC can provide help with many breastfeeding concerns, such as:
Pain and injury to the nipples
(cracking, vasospasm, milk blisters, etc.)
Breast pain
(engorgement, blocked ducts, mastitis, yeast, etc.)
Insufficient milk production or overproduction
Slow or insufficient weight gain in the baby
Difficulty latching, Breast refusal
Breastfeeding babies with specific conditions
(tongue tie, palate malformations, hypotonia, etc.)
Breastfeeding with specific maternal conditions
(Insufficient glandular tissue, breast surgery, etc.)
Breastfeeding premature babies
Breastfeeding twins and multiples
Education and preparation in the prenatal period
Induced lactation and breastfeeding of an adopted baby
